Chelsea host Manchester City in the biggest match of the midweek Premier League fixtures.
Things are looking promising if you are a Chelsea fan; they’ve recently announced the signing of German striker Timo Werner in addition to their acquisition of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax a few months back. It has also been reported that Kai Havertz of Bayer Leverkusen is close to signing for the Blues. The current Chelsea players will have to prove their worth for the remainder of a season in which they have been dogged by inconsistency. They won their first match after the restart with a tough 1-2 away victory against Aston Villa, and they’re currently at 3/1 to defeat Manchester City on Thursday evening.
Man City have made an excellent return to their Premier League campaign. They’ve recorded comfortable victories over Arsenal and Burnley — the latter of which was a 5-0 thrashing. However, this match against Chelsea will be a sterner test. Man City are at 4/5 to make it three wins in a row.
This will be an uphill battle for Frank Lampard’s men as City have tasted victory in six of the previous seven matches between the two, and the Citizens are favourites to make it seven from eight. Chelsea certainly have the players to cause Man City problems, but they will have to be at their very best to get a win here. N’golo Kante, a player known more for his defensive work, has surprisingly scored in two of his previous three league matches against City; he’s at 10/1 to add to his tally against them. As ever, Pep Guardiola’s side will control the possession, and it’ll be up to Chelsea to limit their chances and make the most of when they have attacks of their own.
Injuries and suspensions
Chelsea: Callum Hudson-Odoi and Fikayo Tomori.
Manchester City: Eric García.
