There are some intriguing matchups in the League Cup quarter-finals as eight teams battle it out to try and gain the first piece of silverware of the season.

Aston Villa vs Liverpool

Liverpool will select a weakened team in this match with the first-team squad travelling to Qatar for the Club World Cup. Most of their players will be from the U23 squad, and U23 manager Neil Critchley will be taking charge of this one. This is an excellent chance for Aston Villa to make the semi-finals and they will likely field a full-strength team. The Liverpool youngsters are currently at 7/1 to win at Villa Park.

Everton vs Leicester

Everton have improved since firing Marco Silva with former player Duncan Ferguson currently in temporary charge. Everton recently won against Chelsea and grabbed a draw at Old Trafford in the Premier League. Can Ferguson inspire his side to the semi-finals? They are currently at 19/10 to defeat the in-form Foxes.

Oxford vs Manchester City

While Man City will field a second-string side; it should still be more than enough to dispatch 1986 winners Oxford. They know they can’t afford to be complacent as they have struggled against opposition in the lower leagues before. A home win for Oxford would come as a massive shock and STS have odds of 16/1 for them to make the semi-finals.

Manchester United vs Colchester

Man United should field a strong side as it’s a good chance of a trophy and momentum for when they are involved in other competitions. Colchester have already knocked out Tottenham, and they are at 18/1 for another giant-killing win in this year’s League Cup. However, even if Man United field a slightly weakened side; they should have enough to defeat Colchester despite their heroics against Tottenham.
