Manchester City vs Lyon Champions League Betting Tips

Man City vs Lyon

Estádio José Alvalade, Lisbon, Portugal.

Saturday 15th August 2020.

Kick-off: 20:00 (BST).

Champions League.

How to watch Manchester City vs Lyon: BT Sport 1

Manchester City will be in Lisbon on Saturday night to take on Lyon for a place in the semi-finals of the Champions League!

Same again?

Manchester City produced the most impressive Champions League performances in their history by beating Real Madrid 2-1 both home and away. A similar display in the next round will surely be too much for Lyon to handle. That performance has made City the favourites for the competition at 9/4.

Lyon luck

Although the French league was cut short, Lyon were struggling and finished in 7th place. Their form has been better in cup competitions after reaching the final of the league cup and knocking out Juventus to reach the quarter-finals. "Les Gones" squeezed their way into the knockout rounds after earning one point more than Benfica and Zenit St. Petersburg. They caused the shock of the tournament so far by beating Juventus in the round of 16 on away goals. Can they cause another surprise? Lyon are at 11/1 to win.

Match preview

Lyon played Man City twice in last season's competition with the French side grabbing a 1-2 away victory and a 2-2 home draw. This will give them much-needed confidence, especially since not many are giving them a chance to win. This is added to the fact that Manchester were in much better shape at the time compared to now. Man City will dominate possession and the number of attacks, and it's up to Lyon to create successful counters — something they did with aplomb in last season's group stages. Lyon will be hoping that Ivorian international Maxwel Cornet is fit for this one as he scored three of the goals in the two previously mentioned games last season, and he's at 6/1 to grab another one here.

Injuries and suspensions

Manchester City: Sergio Aguero.

Lyon: Maxwel Cornet, Jason Denayer and Kenny Tete are all doubts.

Betting tip

Despite being massive underdogs, it's certainly worth a punt for Lyon to qualify at current odds of 7/1.
